Uncertainity at the federal level concerning the Department of Education is causing concern in local school districts. Superintendent of the Stanberry R-2 School district, Doctor John Davison, says a shut down of the Department could delay or slow down the flow of funds to districts. Davison says ten percent of the Stanberry R-2 budget is from federal funds.
"The money that we receive from the federal government is for mainly two of our programs, that would be for our special education needs of the district and our Title 1 which is also called ESEA consolidated funds and that's just to help serve the needs of our district as far as our free and reduced population." says Davison.
Doctor Davison says if the district loses those funds officials will have to look at several options including cutting programs, increasing local taxes or cutting staff.
