Governor of Arkansas signs Execution Bill

Legislation - Governor

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) -

Arkansas Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders has signed legislation allowing the state to carry out executions using nitrogen gas. The Republican governor signed the measure Tuesday, making the state the fifth to adopt a method that opponents say is unconstitutional.

Arkansas has 25 people on death row. The state has not carried out an execution since 2017, when it put four people to death before one of its lethal injection drugs expired. The state said it has been unable to get a new batch of lethal injection drugs from manufacturers who oppose their use in executions.
