March is National Pet Poison Prevention Month. University of Missouri veterinary toxicologist Tim Evans says it's a good time to review how household items can endanger pets. He says to safely store all household items that could be a danger to your pet.
Pay particular attention to bedside or tableside medications that could cause serious injury or death to your pet. Follow label directions when cleaning your pets toys and to vacuum up carpet fresheners and shampoo before letting your pet into freshly cleaned rooms.
Evans adds to keep fabric softeners away from your pet as unused dryer sheets can cause oral ulcers if a pet chews on those. Also an intestinal blockage may occur if an animal eats enough fabric softener sheets.
