Evergy, Incorporated has announced plans to develop a 4-megawatt natural gas plant in Nodaway County. Director of Corporate Communications with Evergy, Gina Penzig says, the facility is to be built just South of Maryville.
"There is a sub-station near the plant site which is part of what made it attractive. All of the power that Evergy produces goes into the Southwest powerpole and then comes back to our customers.", Penzig states.
Penzig says the new plant will assist Evergy in meeting energy needs during high demand times of the year.
"One thing that is important about a natural gas plant versus some other resources is that we have the ability to turn it on and off as we need to. Especially this plant coming to Nodaway County is to really make sure that those times when energy use is highest, we will have the resources to meet customers needs. Think about those really hot August days or when it is really cold in the winter.", says Penzig.
Construction on the new plant in Nodaway County is scheduled to begin in late 2026 and be operational in 2030.
