Health and Human Service Departments are facing layoffs
Layoffs begin at US health agencies responsible for research, tracking disease and regulating food.
Hundreds of employees have wrapped around the U.S. Health and Human Services Department headquarters in Washington, where they've begun receiving notices of dismissal in an overhaul ultimately expected to lay off up to 10,000 people.
The notices came Tuesday just days after President Donald Trump moved to strip workers of their collective bargaining rights at HHS and other agencies. Some workers say they're waiting to find out if they still have jobs.
Others have gathered at local coffee shops and lunch spots after finding out they've been eliminated following decades of service.
The Republican president's health secretary, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., says he's remaking the department because it has failed to improve the health of Americans.
