Webinars offered leading up to the inaugural Missouri Birding Challenge
The Missouri Department of Conservation, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, Missouri River Bird Observatory, and Missouri Conservation Heritage Foundation are inviting both new and seasoned bird watchers to join a special series of free webinars leading up to the inaugural Missouri Birding Challenge, set to take place from May 1st through the 15th.
The final webinar, titled Seven Simple Actions to Help Birds at Home, will take place Thursday, May 1, from 6 to 7 p.m. The Missouri River Bird Observatory's Dana Ripper will discuss how people can make a significant impact in helping bird populations, especially considering the troubling loss of nearly one-third of North American bird species in the past five decades. Participants will learn simple actions they can take right at home to support local birdlife.
To take part, interested birders must register in advance. Registered attendees will receive a reminder email before the event. The registration link can be found at mdc.mo.gov.
The Missouri Birding Challenge is a collaborative effort offering a fun and competitive way for birders to participate. Participants will compete individually or in teams across various categories based on their experience and comfort levels. Using the eBird platform, birders will record their sightings at public natural areas or even in their own backyards.
Registration for the challenge is open through April 30th.
