In the St Louis area today, the Director of the state's Department of Commerce and Insurance Angela Nelson is meeting with communities impacted by last week's severe tornado event. Nelson is out discussing inusrance coverage for residents who lost homes, vehicles, and their neighborhoods during the EF3 tornado, which killed more than two dozen people in Southeastern Missouri and Western Kentucky on May 16th.
The National Weather Service has continued to track severe weather across the central US this week, including here in Nodaway County.
As states across the country report an increase in severe weather events, home insurance has become a major issue in some regions. But Nelson says she's already been in contact with insurers coming forward to meet the needs of Missourians. For those impacted, Nelson says, "Our goal is to assist as quickly as possible. It’s our job to help you during these times,".
