Mozingo Lake Park has a new visitor center. According to the park's Director Jordyn Greenhaw, there will be a grand opening this Friday. "With memorial weekend kind of always being the kick off to the summer season, we figured we would do our grand opening to the public then.", says Greenshaw.
The opening takes place from 11 AM to 7 PM, with live music, shaved ice, a food truck, and a celebration of the handsome new welcome center located on Ridge Road, on the lake's east side.
The new building was made possible by a grant from the Missouri Department of Economic Development as well as high school students at the Northwest Technical School in Maryville. While professional contracters dug the foundation and poured the concrete, the local school kids completed most of the work, Greenhaw said.
"They're the ones who are building the walls, putting the siding on, and actually building and getting the hands-on experience in all of the trades that it takes to construct an actual building.", says Greenshaw.
In addition to providing an opportunity for students to apply their learning, the collaboration also cut costs on the project. Mozingo Park is managed by the City of Maryville; the visitor center will welcome guests, with a shop for souveniers and camping goods, and a storm shelter.
