Maryville adds a second School Resource Officer
A program with a twenty history is getting a boost this fall as Maryville adds a second School Resource Officer to its staff. The Maryville School District and the City Council both approved the position at recent meetings. Maryville Police Chief Mike Stolte outlined the SRO program at City Council on Tuesday.Meyers will now have company on the job. Following recent approvals, the City is working to hire a second School Resource Officer. Stolte says that officer will likely have to be an outside hire.
SROs are trained law enforcement working specifically with school staff on safety and security. In Maryville, the position is funded by both the school district and the city, with the district paying 75 percent of the cost, and the city paying 25. The cost sharing is set up to reflect the dual duties of the positon. When school is out of session, SROs work with the city's regular law enforcement staff.
