Mozingo Lake is hosting the Youth Championship for Kansas Bass Nation

This week at Mozingo Lake, the region's finest young fisherman will compete for the title of "Kansas Bassmaster." On May 30th and 31st, Mozingo is hosting the Youth Championship for Kansas Bass Nation, the state chapter of a national organization that promotes fishing culture and conservation. Teams of Kansas fisherman qualified for the upcoming tournament by finishing in the top 10 percent at competitions held earlier this year. The organization chose Mozingo for its championship tournament becasue the lake boasts a variety of habitats and has a thriving bass population. The weekend's tournament features fisherman from 8 years old up to 14, and a separate competition for high schoolers. Both divisions will set off at 6 am each day, and fish until weigh-in times at 12:30 and 2:30 pm. The public is welcome to attend the weigh-ins at the Mozingo Boat Ramp and see the bounty lurking in the waters of our local resevoir. The winning teams qualify for the National Championship this summer. Fisherman are arriving at Mozingo this week, testing the waters before Friday's cast-off.
