The Allied Arts Council of St. Joseph is hosting its 13th annual Beer Walk for the Arts

The Allied Arts Council of St. Joseph is hosting its 13th annual Beer Walk for the Arts on Saturday, May 17th, from 2 to 5 p.m. in the historic Harris-Kemper neighborhood.

The event features craft beers from Midwestern breweries, food samples, home tours, and live music.

Performers include folk artist Tori Wist, singer Ashlyn Ford, bluegrass musician Carter Hewins, guitarist Tad Hopkins, and the folk duo Muddy Ribbon-featuring husband and wife Tyler Giles and Cheyenne Dorrell-Giles.

Director of Strategic Communications for the Allied Arts Council, Brooke McBride says the Beer Walk is a fundraiser for the local arts fund.

"That money goes to those seven different organizations. They will all get a grant based off of the applications and how much money we raise. We are just trying to make sure that communities understand how important the arts are and that they provide a lot of different unique opportunities.", says McBride.

McBride says events like this are about more than just enjoying music and craft beer-they help strengthen the community through support for the arts.

"There is a lot of data shows that it improves mental health, forming connections, and building communities. We have the data that backs up that the arts is very beneficial for the community.", says McBride.

The 13th annual Beer Walk for the Arts takes place rain or shine on Saturday, May 17th.
