Gas prices in Missouri have edged down this week. According to GasBuddy’s latest survey of nearly 4,000 stations, the average price for a gallon of regular unleaded is now $2.86, down 1.4 cents from last week.
Compared to a month ago, Missouri drivers are paying 8.6 cents less per gallon, and prices are down 45.1 cents from this time last year. The lowest price reported in the state on Sunday was $2.39, while the highest was $3.59—a difference of $1.20.
Nationwide, the average price of gasoline has risen slightly to $3.12 per gallon, up two cents over the past week. Diesel prices also inched up, now averaging $3.50 per gallon nationally.
Regionally, prices vary. Kansas City and Topeka are both averaging $2.83, with small increases from last week. St. Louis saw a drop, now sitting at $2.99 per gallon.
GasBuddy’s head of petroleum analysis, Patrick De Haan, says OPEC+ plans to increase oil production in June, and with refinery maintenance winding down in the U.S., gasoline supply is expected to rise. That could lead to lower prices in the coming weeks, with the national average potentially falling below $3 per gallon.
