This weekend will be the annual rummage sale in Maryville

Rummage sale

The Saint Gregory Catholic Church and School hosts its annual rummage sale this weekend. The parish was accepting donations earlier this week at its school gymnasium; on Tuesday afternoon the room was already packed with clothing, kitchen gadgets, tailgate grills, and miscellenous knick-knacks. Amy Gastler, who teaches Language Arts at St Gregory's, is organizing the sale.

She started volunteering at the event a few years ago, but its history stretches back farther than that, she says, " As far as how long it has been going on, I have no clue. I actually went to St. Gregory's, kindgerdern all the way through eighth and it was going on when I was here."

The sale runs this Thursday from 4 to 8 PM, Friday from 8 AM to 7 PM, and Saturday 8 AM to Noon.

"And it is fill a bag for $10, we have big brown Hy-Vee grocery bags. Anything that you can fit in the bag is $10 and anything else is priced individually.", says Gastler.

There are always deals to be found. But Gastler says many folks will be there Thursday afternoon, ready to go.

"People start lining up at like 2 o'clock, so if you have nothing better to do and want to sit outside, I would get here early.", says Gastler.

Any unclaimed goods are donated following the sale. Gastler says the event is important for local families looking to clothe kids and fill out their closets.
