The City of Chillicothe is readying for a summer of tourist traffic. The Tourism Board met last week to discuss efforts to increase visitor numbers in the city and work on community beautification projects.
The city is starting a process to install a welcome sign leading to the downtown core. Tourism Director Amy Supple said the work is still in the cocnept stage, and the city needs to consider design, location, cost, and all the rest.
Other projects coming down the way include a redesigned website for the town's tourism projects and events. The outdoor farmer's market is resuming at the city center every Saturday morning. And visitors can now rent the city's trolley car for their event.
The visitor center tracks tourism numbers, and has recorded steady increases over the years. As the busy summer season amps up, Supple says Chillicothe does seem to be growing in popularity as a destination.
She adds that events are a big draw for visitors, and are popular amongst residents as well. This weekend will feature one of the city's signature festivities: its annual Sliced Bread Day. Taking place June 7th across the city, it celebrates the invention of sliced bread: the city's claim to fame, and the best thing since... well, ever.
