Elementary students in the Maryville R-2 school district will start the upcoming school year under the same roof. Interim Superintendent, Philip Pohren says construction on the Eugene Field Elementary building is expected to be completed in plenty of time for students to return to the building for classes this year. He says construction crews are on schedule to have the project completed by August 6 with classes scheduled to begin August 20.

Pohren says, "August 6th, when they tell us it's finished, it's not gonna be completely finished to a hundred percent, but it's gonna be to the point where we can begin thinking about getting students into classrooms and having school all under one roof again. This last year, our third and fourth graders, they were attending class at a wing at the tech school. We get to bring them back to the elementary school. We'll have our Pre-K through Fourth all back together, and everyone gets a new facility or a new upgrade as just about every square inch of that building has been touched, renovated, rebuilt, et cetera."

Pohren says the construction project is within one percent of their budget that was approved by voters about one year ago.
