Missouri lost 6,600 jobs in April according to the latest release from the State Department of Economic Development. This marks another hectic swing for the state's employment numbers, which have been up and down for the past twelve months despite relatively stable job growth nationally. The state made some gains in the Transportation and Shipping industries, but saw dramatic job loss in Liesure and Hospitality, Retail, and Manufacturing. Even Healthcare jobs, which have powered growth in Missouri over the past year, fell slightly.
How are Missourians feeling about their economic prospects in the future? Those expectations fell slightly, with only 48 percent of respondants predicting future economic growth. Midwesterners generally feel slightly more optimistic, with 53% predicting growth. However, it is hard for the data to keep up, as news changes everyday regarding tariffs and the Trump Administration's economic policies.
