Main Street America recognized Downtown Maryville as an affiliate member

Downtown Maryville, MO

The City of Maryville, specifically its Downtown, has received an honor. The nonprofit organization Main Street America recognized the City as an affiliate member.

President of Main Street America Erin Barnes says the organization chooses affiliates based on their "commitment to building strong and vibrant communities." With the designation, Maryville joins 350 other affiliate communities across the nation. That includes communities within our region. Trenton and Chillicothe, Missouri, Falls City, Nebraska, and Atchison, Kansas were all recognized for their commitment to investing in thriving downtowns.

Director of Downtown Maryville, which facilitates community improvement projects, Deanna Davison noted the honor opens up a powerful tool for advocacy. It points to Maryville's progress in preserving its history and using its resources to create a vibrant and attractive local economy. She thanked the volunteers who have donated hours to the improvement of the City, and to the downtown's businesses and community partners.

The Main Street program focuses on strengthening the downtown area through efforts like promoting local businesses, hosting events, and improving the physical appearance of the area. Downtown Maryville has been working on initiatives like adjusting store hours to be open later, hosting events like the "Third Thursday" and the weekly "Downtown Market", and focusing on community engagement and volunteerism. The community has shown support for downtown revitalization efforts, as evidenced by the community survey results and participation in events.

Projects that are underway in Downtown Maryville are the Pedestrian Alleyway project and the Downtown Pavillion project. The Downtown Pedestrian Alleyway project will transform an alleyway between Bank Midwest and The Pub into a pedestrian-friendly space with seating, lighting, and landscaping. The Downtown Pavillion project is a large, covered pavilion is being constructed to serve as a hub for events like the city's farmers' market.

These projects, alongside ongoing efforts to improve the downtown area, aim to enhance its attractiveness and create a more vibrant community space.
