Maryville Public Library has summer reading programs for young and old

Maryville Public Library

Summer reading programs are underway across our region, for readers and young and old.
Here in Maryville, the public library is bustling says Youth Services Coordinator Elizabeth Alco.

"Summer is our busiest time of year, it's when we get the most traffic and the most excited kids coming in.", she said.

This summer has been no different, with hundreds of kids enrolled in the summer reading program, and a nearly one hundred adults singed up as well. Alco says its not too late to get kids involved.

Alco says, "They can absolutely still sign up and I hope that they do! Kids get rewarded for every ten days of reading, and we've still got a lot of summer left. So they sill have the opportunity to earn some of the prizes that are displayed in the glass case at the library."

The library also adds an additonal storytime each week in the summer. Those take place at 9:45 AM on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. There are also occasional evening storytimes; the next one of those is on July 1st at 5:30. All are welcome, but readers are usually age 1 to 5, says Alco.

"We do a lot of open-ended activities, and then my books are targeted towards that age as well.", Alco says.

Libraries across our region are offering summer reading programs, storytimes and events for all ages. Contact your local branch to find out what is going in your area.
