Crash numbers were down this Memorial Day Weekend compared to 2024. The Missouri State Highway Patrol responded to one hundred and eighty-two crashes between May 23rd and the 26th. Three resulted in fatalities, and the department recorded eighty-three injuries.
According to the Highway Patrol, this is down significantly from last year's Memorial Day Weekend, when state roadways saw over a thousand crashes and 10 fatalities. There were almost 500 injuries. The Highway Patrol stresses safe driving in the summer months, when state roadways tend to busier, and holiday weekends bring out high traffic numbers, and high numbers of intoxicated drivers.
For Troop H, which serves the state's northwest, it was a quiet holiday weekend, with two crashes reported and only minor injuries. Following the holiday weekend, however Troop H responded to a 3 vehicle crash in a construction zone outside of Chillicothe last wednesday. It resulted in a number of serious injuries.
The patrol also responded to a head-on collision on Tuesday of last week in St. Joseph. A 35-year old was killed in that crash; he was declared dead on the scene. Respect speed limits, drive safely, and never under the influence of drugs or alcohol!
