The City Council of St Joseph is considering rate increases to various city services at its meeting tonight. Following a work session at its last meeting, the council gave preliminary approval to a pair of sewer rate increases, one on July 1st of this year, and a second in July of 2026.
Each increase will hike prices by 3 percent as the city faces roughly 300 million dollars in sewer upgrades over the next ten years. The work is required to keep the city's wastewater system in compliance with federal environmental regulations.
The council is expected to give those rate hikes final approval tonight.
A series of rate increases are coming to the landfill as well. Those will begin this winter.
The Council is expected to increase admission fees at the Remington Nature Center and the Recreation Center, citing the increasing cost of paying staff competitive salaries, and keeping up with state minimum wage hikes. Entry fees will increase by a dollar across the board.
The meeting takes place at 5:30 pm and is open to the public, on person or via zoom.
The Council members are Mayor John Josendale, Madison Davis, Jason Eslinger, Andrew Trout, Michael Grimm, Marty Novak, Kenton Randolph, Jeff Schomburg, and Randy Schultz.
