The Regents kept a tidy agenda at their June 18th meeting, voting quickly to approve the budget for the coming fiscal year and taking care of some business related to shifting facilities on campus. But the meeting ended on a tender note as Regent John Moore announced he was stepping down from the board and making this meeting his last.
Moore said, "This is my 100th Board Committee Meeting today. Wow, I can't think of no better, round, perfect number to say it's time for me to exit."
Moore's generous character, his service to the university and his love of Northwest make him familiar to many in the university's broader community.
Moore was appointed to the Board of Regents in 2018. He led the search and hiring process for current president Lance Tatum, and he's made multiple significant donations to university projects, reflecting on his time serving the board Moore recalled the advice of a colleague and mentor.
That advice was, "Focus on things that you care passionately about, that you enjoy being around, that have people you enjoy being around. Nothing could describe better waht I have experienced being on this board, than that!"
Moore graduated from Northwest in 1978 before spending a career with the Federal Reserve Bank in San Francisco. Whoever steps into his role will have to go through the full approval process.
This includes appointment by the governor and a vote by the State Senate.
