Discover the Joy of Fishing in Missouri – for Free!

The Missouri Department of Conservation is announcing that it is Free Fishing Day all across Missouri. From June 7th to June 8th, people are encouraged to fish in the Show-Me-State, without having to buy a fishing permit, trout permit, or trout park daily tag.

Free Fishing Days is an annual MDC event. Even though permits are not required over those two days, other fishing regulations that will remain such as limits on size and number of fish an angler may keep. There will be special permits that will be required in some counties, cities, or private fishing areas. The trespass laws will remain in affect on private property.

Thanks to conservation efforts, Missouri is a fantastic place to fish—and Free Fishing Days offer the perfect chance to experience it for yourself. With over a million acres of surface water, Missouri is home to exceptional fishing opportunities. The state boasts more than 200 fish species, including over 20 popular game fish, attracting more than 1.1 million anglers each year.

Borrow Fishing Gear for Free
Don’t have gear? No problem. MDC partners with libraries and other local spots to offer free fishing gear rentals. Borrow a fishing pole and a basic tackle box (hooks, sinkers, and bobbers included). Just bring your own bait! Find loaner locations here:
