Federal Reserve Bank's Beige Book

All quiet on the regional economic front -- that's the update from the Federal Reserve Bank's Biege Book, a report published twice quarterly looking at economic indicators across the country.

The Kansas City Reserve Bank collects information from a wide swath of the midwest, including our region. Its reports a slight fall in consumer spending as well as business spending and contracts. Employment levels are largely unchaged.

Nationally, the picture is relatively similar. The economy has seen either slight declines in activity or little change. Many businesses report they are hesitating to add jobs as they wait for further infromation about economic policy decisions. Manufacturing fell slightly, and consumer spending held steady.

A series of bills which will have large implicaitons for the agricultural, education, and healthcare indsutries are currently being considered by congress. Meanwhile, manufacturers continue to watch the situation around tariffs.

Most of the economic activity appears to be on pause while those policy decisions are sorted out.
