With all the rain the midwest has received, flooding may be on the mind.
According to experts at the University of Missouri Extension, knowing the land beneath your feet could be key to preparing for natural disasters.
Assistant professor Ryan Milhollin said in an Extension press release that, "a little planning and knowledge about your land can significantly enhance disaster resilience."
To support that effort, MU Extenstion is offering a free, web based tool called the AgSite Assessment Tool.
Users can outline their property on a computer and recieve detailed reports with information on flood risks, soils, wetlands and climate data.
The tool pulls data from multiple government federal agencies, and is used by farmers, landowners, bankers and real estate appraisers in all 50 states.
Mihollin says its also helps families make escape routes and communication plans.
The tool is free to use and available at, agsite.missouri.edu.
