The Missouri State Supreme Court named a new chief justice yesterday. W Brent Powell has stepped into the two-year position, filling the seat formerly held by Mary R Russell. Apres release form the court highlighted Powell's Missouri roots: a graduate of the Mizzou Law School, he was born in Springfield.
Powell entered public service as a prosecutor in Platte County. In 2008, he became a Circuit Court Judge in Jackson Count, and about a decade later was appointed to the State Supreme Court by Govenror Eric Greitens. Voters then gave him a 12-year term on the Court begining in November 2018. Powell and his wife live in Kansas City.
Justices do not belong to a specific party and do not engage in partisanship. According to an alaysis by the online encyclopedia, 'Ballot-pedia,' Powell's record reflects a moderate-conservative legal approach.
