Pro Athlete, Inc. has evolved into one of the most successful businesses in Kansas City, and a Northwest Missouri State University alum stands out as a difference maker in the booming company.
Andrew Dowis, a graduate of Northwest and Jefferson C-123 High School, serves as the chief operating officer of Pro Athlete, Inc. Pro Athlete is an online retailer of baseball bats and gloves, and manages four e-commerce websites out of their north Kansas City offices - JustBats.com, JustBallGloves.com, BatWarehouse.com and BallGloveWarehouse.com. JustBats.com also sells more baseball and softball bats than anyone else in the United States.
Pro Athlete is also consistently listed among the healthiest employers each year by the Kansas City Business Journal. The honor comes thanks to a corporate wellness program that few can match. The company offers a personal trainer, weights, cardio room, mediation and yoga studio, healthy menu options from the full-time chef and a batting cage, of course, all free of charge for employees.
Dowis, who is in his ninth year with Pro Athlete, says healthy, happy employees make for a successful company.
"We wouldn't know how to run a business any other way," Dowis said. "It just feels like the right way to do it. We believe in taking care of everybody and the rest will follow."
