The final January KXCV Bearcat Coaches Show from Carson's Sports Grille in downtown Maryville brought out the Northwest Missouri State men's and women's basketball coaches as they embark on the final month of their regular seasons. Meanwhile, Bearcat softball made its first appearance on the show in 2018 with the season opener just two weeks away.

Northwest women's basketball continues to make strides with its young roster. The Bearcats have held a lead or found themselves within two possessions of their opponent in the fourth quarter in three of their last four games. With nine games left in the regular season, Northwest is just two games back of the final spot in the MIAA Tournament. Head coach Buck Scheel discussed the team at Thursday's Coaches Show.

The Bearcat men's basketball team rebounded from its second loss of the season last Thursday at Nebraska Kearney with a strong performance in a win over Fort Hays State. Northwest was without the reigning national player of the year in the win over Hays. Justin Pitts sat out with concussion-like symptoms. Chris-Ebou Ndow stepped up with 20 points and 14 rebounds in the win. Head coach Ben McCollum spoke about the win and the upcoming challenge against Missouri Western on the Coaches Show.

The softball season is just two weeks away for Northwest Missouri State. The Bearcats open the season February 10 against Arkansas Tech in Bentonville, Arkansas. Northwest is coming off a 29-21 campaign (16-10 MIAA) where they were within one game of reaching the MIAA Championship, and gave the top team in the MIAA their biggest scare of the conference tournament. Head coach Ryan Anderson and senior pitcher Taylor Blackford joined the Coaches Show to talk about the preparations the Bearcats are making for a strong 2018.
