Northwest Missouri State ran its record to 7-0 with a comfortable 42-14 win over Northeastern State (0-7) Saturday afternoon.

The Bearcats were propelled by a strong rushing attack that accumulated 248 yards and three touchdowns on the ground.

Northwest got the scoring started with a two-yard plunge from Brody McMahon to open up a 7-0 lead in the first quarter.

McMahon finished the day with 60 yards on 16 carries and a score. The Maryville native is averaging 4.7 yards per carry over his last four games.

The Riverhawks evened the game at 7-7 on the ensuing possession, but the Bearcats took over from there.

Northwest scored 35 consecutive points through the start of the fourth quarter to open up a 42-7 lead on NSU.

Jordan Thompson scored twice on a pair of three-yard runs -- one in the second quarter and one in the fourth to seal the game. The true freshman from Apopka, FL led the 'Cats with 110 rush yards on 23 carries.

While the Northwest rushing attack was a catalyst for the offense, the Bearcat defense set the tone by shutting down the Riverhawk running backs.

NSU finished with -22 rush yards in the loss. It was the second time this season that Northwest held its opponent to negative rushing yards.

The Bearcats return to Maryville on October 21 for a Homecoming matchup with Lindenwood. Kickoff is set for 2pm. Pregame on KXCV-KRNW will begin at 1pm.
