The Northwest women's basketball team pushed the No. 21 team in the nation to the limit on Saturday afternoon, but the Bearcats came up short of an upset in a 57-53 loss to Central Oklahoma.
The 'Cats (1-7, 0-2 MIAA) led for 36:04 of the 40 minute game, but surrendered the lead with 1:28 to play.
Northwest jumped ahead of Central Oklahoma by two at the end of the first quarter, and opened up a 14-point lead in the second quarter. The Bronchos were able to outscore the Bearcats 22-11 in the final quarter to pull out a four-point win.
Freshman point guard Jaelyn Haggard paced the Bearcats with 19 points on 7-15 shooting in the game. Tanya Meyer added 12 points and seven rebound in the loss.
The 'Cats begin a six-game road trip this week with a 5:30pm start against Missouri Western on Wednesday in St. Joseph. Pregame on KXCV-KRNW will start at 5:10pm.
