Northwest nearly captured its first MIAA win of the 2017-18 basketball season on Saturday afternoon, but Southwest Baptist swooped in to steal a 75-70 victory in the final minutes.
The Bearcats (1-15, 0-8 MIAA) led by 10 points after Mallory McAndrews hit a three-pointer with 8:15 remaining in the game, but SBU went on a 13-2 run to take a one-point lead with 2:55 to go. Northwest pushed back in front with a pair of buckets from McAndrews and Jaelyn Haggard, but Southwest Baptist outscored them 10-3 in the final 1:54 to complete the comeback win.
McAndrews led the 'Cats with 18 points on 6-9 shooting.
Tanya Meyer finished with 14 points, followed by Haggard with 12.
