Northwest Missouri State dropped its season-opener to Wayne State College 75-58 Friday evening.

Playing in head coach Austin Meyer's debut, the Bearcats played well and trailed by just five points after the first quarter, but the Wildcats began to pull away in the second quarter as the deficit ballooned to 14 points at halftime.

Northwest played even with Wayne State in the second half, but they couldn't close in on the Wildcats.

Kendey Eaton posted 17 points, eight assists and five rebounds in her first game for Northwest Missouri State.

Jaelyn Haggard finished with 16 points after going 4-4 from three-point range.
