Joey Witthus eclipsed 30 points for a second consecutive game as Northwest topped Emporia State 79-59 Wednesday night.
The senior from Chanhassen, Minnesota finished with 32 points against the Hornets – 19 coming in the second half – after posting a career-high 34 against Central Oklahoma Saturday.
Emporia State trailed by 16 points in the first half, but cut the deficit to six in the second half. As the Hornets inched closer, Witthus kicked it into high gear outscoring Emporia 16-8 by himself during a five minute span in the second half to boost the Bearcats.
Northwest improved to 15-0 overall and 5-0 in the MIAA with the win.
As a team, the 'Cats shot 44.3-percent from the field and 43.6-percent behind the arc.
The Bearcats also made the most of their offensive possessions only turning the ball over three times and snaring 12 offensive rebounds.
