Northwest Missouri State men's basketball earned a 81-69 road victory Saturday afternoon over Fort Hays State.

The Bearcats (19-0, 9-0 MIAA) are now within one win of their eighth consecutive 20-plus win season.

The Tigers (13-6, 7-3 MIAA) shot the ball well in the opening half knocking down 58-percent of their attempts, but a steady dose of Joey Witthus boosted the 'Cats into the lead. Witthus scored 19 of his 24 points in the opening 20 minutes as Northwest led 42-35 at halftime.

Trevor Hudgins put together a career-night with 30 points and six assists to help Northwest pull away in the second half.

Diego Bernard hit a three-pointer and Hudgins made a layup with 7:30 remaining in the game to put the Bearcats in front by 12. They kept that breathing room the rest of the way not allowing the lead to drop below nine points.

Bernard also finished in double figures with 13 points, and Ryan Welty added 10 points.

Northwest returns home to face Pittsburg State at 7:30pm Thursday. Pregame on KXCV 90.5 and KRNW 88.9 will begin at 7:10pm.
