Molly Hartnett sank the game-winning layup with 2.4 seconds remaining to lift Northwest Missouri State women's basketball to its first win over Missouri Western in St. Joseph since 2011.
The Bearcats (3-2) trailed 50-46 with one minute remaining in the game. The quick comeback with time running out started with a three-pointer from senior guard Jaelyn Haggard to cut the deficit to one point.
After getting a stop on defense and a timeout, Northwest put the ball in Hartnett's hands and let her go to work.
Hartnett finished with a game-high 18 points, 12 coming in the second half.
Northwest struggled offensively at time throughout the game, but their defense held Missouri Western in check.
Both teams shot 37.5-percent from the field, but the Griffons were 3-20 on three-pointers and more than doubled the Bearcats' in turnovers with 13.
Mallory McConkey scored 10 of her 14 points in the first half to keep Northwest afloat. The Bearcats trailed by two at halftime.
Mia Stillman also hit a trio of three-pointers to finish with nine points and five rebounds.
Northwest Missouri State is on the road again this week. The Bearcats face Missouri Southern in Joplin at 5:30pm Thursday. Pregame on KXCV 90.5 and KRNW 88.9 begins at 5pm.
