Northwest 49, Missouri Southern 7

Northwest Missouri State football jumped ahead of Missouri Southern early and never looked back en route to a 49-7 win Saturday in Joplin.

The Bearcats (8-1) led 7-0 at the end of the first quarter, then promptly scored 28 points in the second quarter to take control of the game.

The Northwest defense was superb limiting Missouri Southern to 75 total yards. The 'Cats forced three turnovers, including two going back for scores.

Drew Dostal came away with two interceptions, including one early in the second quarter returned 37 yards for a touchdown. Early in the fourth quarter, Zach Howard sacked Southern's Dawson Herl forcing a fumble. Andrew Blum scooped it and returned it 23 yards to the end zone.

The Lions finished the day with minus-10 rush yards.

Al McKeller had another strong game carrying the football, rushing for 140 yards and three touchdowns on 25 carries.

Mike Hohensee threw for 264 yards, a touchdown and two interceptions, while also running for 54 yards and a score.

Kaden Davis had season-highs with seven receptions for 102 yards and a touchdown in the win.

The Bearcats return home for Senior Day Saturday at 1:30 against Emporia State. Pregame on KXCV 90.5 and KRNW 88.9 begins at 12:30.
