Northwest 69, Missouri Southern 62

Northwest Missouri State closed out the regular season with a strong showing in a 69-62 win over Missouri Southern.

The Bearcats (22-6, 16-6 MIAA) earned the No. 2 seed in the MIAA Tournament with the victory.

Northwest came out of the gates hot Saturday, hitting nine of 11 shots in the first quarter to jump in front by five. The push continued in the second, opening up a 41-27 halftime lead.

The Lions slowed the Bearcats down in the third quarter forcing 10 turnovers, but Southern only outscored Northwest 10-6 in the frame.

The 'Cats closed out the game at the free throw line with Molly Hartnett knocking down six in a row in the final 31 seconds.

Jayna Green put up 18 points for the second game in a row.

Kelsey Fields posted a double-double with 18 points and 13 rebounds. She also blocked three shots.

Caely Kesten tacked on 15 points and four assists.

Northwest now moves onto the MIAA Tournament. The Bearcats will play in the quarterfinal round against Washburn or Nebraska Kearney Thursday at 2:15pm. Pregame on KXCV 90.5/KRNW 88.9 begins at 1:45pm.
