Northwest 76, Washburn 59

Northwest Missouri State overcame a slow start and double-digit deficit to down Washburn 76-59 and advance to the MIAA Tournament championship Sunday afternoon.

The Bearcats (26-4) started the game making just one of 13 shot attempts, and trailed 17-7 eight minutes into the game. Northwest outscored Washburn 24-12 the rest of the half to open a 31-29 lead going into the locker room.

Despite making just two of 10 three-point attempts in the second half, Northwest tacked on 45 points in the final 20 minutes to pull away from the Ichabods.

Mitch Mascari scored a game-high 19 points, including making all 10 of his free throw attempts.

Daniel Abreu posted his first double-double of the season with 18 points and 10 rebounds.

Wes Dreamer finished with 13 points and seven rebounds.

Northwest moves onto the MIAA Tournament championship against Pittsburg State on Sunday at 3:30pm. Pregame on KXCV 90.5/KRNW 88.9 begins at 3pm.
