Northwest Missouri State claimed its 12th MIAA Tournament title in a 78-65 victory over Pittsburg State Sunday afternoon.
The Bearcats (27-4) jumped out to a 14-2 less than four minutes into the game and never looked back. The Gorillas didn't get closer than nine points for the final 36:25 of the game.
Northwest took advantage early, turning offensive rebounds and Pitt turnovers into points. For the game, the Bearcats finished with 11 offensive boards and 15 second chance points. They also turned 15 Gorilla turnovers into 15 points.
Bennett Stirtz posted his best game of the conference tournament with 25 points and 8 assists.
Wes Dreamer posted 16 points, and Daniel Abreu added 14 points.
Byron Alexander was in double figures off the bench with 11 points.
Abreu was named MIAA Tournament Most Outstanding Player. He was joined on the all-tournament team by Dreamer and Mitch Mascari.
