This week's Bearcat Coaches Show covers the final regular season meets of the indoor track & field season, Northwest basketball's preparation for the final homestand, baseball's first MIAA series, the upcoming tennis road trip, and golf's season outlook with the first tournament one week away.
The first conference series of the season was no easy task with the No. 13 Missouri Southern Lions hosting Northwest Missouri State. The Bearcats were competitive, but dropped all three games. Head coach Tony Jandron and senior Ryan Williams sat down with John Coffey to discuss the previous weekend and the upcoming home opener against Concordia St. Paul.
Northwest men's tennis topped Augustana last week, while the women's team dropped its matchup with Augie in the first conference play of the spring season. This week, the Bearcats drive to Springfield for matches against Maryville University and Drury. Assistant coach Mason Meier was joined by seniors Carol Oliveira and Vini Rodrigues on this week's show discussing the matches.
Bearcat women's basketball split its final road trip with a win over Northeastern State and loss to Arkansas Fort Smith. Head coach Austin Meyer talked about the challenges his team has faced this season and the opportunities that are ahead of them with two more home games followed by the MIAA Tournament.
The golf season gets underway next Monday, March 3, in Edmond, OK for Northwest Missouri State. The team put together a solid fall season that included five top 10 finishes for individuals across six tournaments. Head coach Lathan Croy and senior Paige Hoffman discuss the well-rounded roster and chance to put together a strong spring.
The MIAA Indoor Track & Field Championships will be held at the Hughes Fieldhouse on the Northwest campus Friday through Sunday, and the Bearcats have a chance to make some noise in their home building. Grant Bradley and Drew Atkins, runners that posted provisional qualifying marks in the 3,000 meters over the weekend, joined head coach Brandon Masters on the show looking ahead to the MIAA meet.
Northwest men's basketball won back-to-back games last weekend for the first time all season. Now they will try to carry some momentum through the final matchups of the regular season this weekend with Newman and Emporia State coming to Maryville. Head coach Matt Keeley and freshman Marcus Glock are guests on the show sharing about the continued push by the men's basketball team down the stretch.
