Northwest Missouri State baseball opened the home slate of games with a series win, while softball takes the home diamond for the first time on Sunday. Tennis makes the trek south for matches in Texas and Oklahoma. Indoor track & field gets a week off before the national championships, and women's basketball returns to Municipal Auditorium for the MIAA Tournament. All that and more was covered on this week's Bearcat Coaches Show.
Among the nine event titles won at the MIAA Championships over the weekend, two of them came thanks to the Bearcats during the 800 meter run. Junior Riley Witt and freshman Marie Dea won the men's and women's races, respectively. Witt, Dea and head coach Brandon Masters joined the program to breakdown a successful conference weekend.
Northwest softball capped the weekend in Shawnee, KS with a 5-3 extra-inning victory over Maryville University. The Bearcats are 10-9 and will play at home for the first time this season with Augustana visiting on Sunday afternoon. Bearcat head coach Naomi Tellez and senior Gaige Pinkerton discussed the success shown by pitchers and expectations coming home.
Bearcat women's basketball is in the MIAA Tournament for the fourth straight season after wrapping the regular season with a 15-14 overall mark. Northwest is the No. 9 seed, and will face Missouri Southern on Wednesday. Senior guard Caely Kesten highlighted her terrific career and the expectations in Kansas City this weekend.
Northwest tennis returned from St. Louis with wins from both the women's and men's teams. This week, the Bearcats face Midwestern State and UT Tyler in Wichita Falls, TX, then finish the weekend in Lawton, OK against Cameron University. Head coach Mark Rosewell, junior Alva Norberg and sophomore Dominik Wijntjes visit with John Coffey about the opportunities ahead this weekend.
Bearcat baseball took two of three from Concordia St. Paul at home last weekend, and will host Washburn this Friday through Sunday for a three-game set. First-year head coach Tony Jandron and catcher Brady Miles spoke about getting back into MIAA play this weekend.
