The No. 22-ranked Northwest Missouri State University football team fell 36-22 to the No. 13-ranked Minnesota State University Mavericks in their season-opening game.  The Bearcat loss comes for the first time in 13 years at Bearcat Stadium.

Northwest was down 29-0 before mounting a comeback scoring 22 unanswered points to get within one possession in the 4th quarter.

Bearcat quarterback Chris Runke passed for a career high 268 yards and 3 touchdowns throws to Andrew Bradley (43 yards), Luke Mathews (80 yards) and Tank Young (13 yards).

The Bearcats travel to Kearney, Nebraska on Saturday night, September 7th to open MIAA play against Nebraska-Kearney.
