Northwest Missouri State went cold from the field in the second quarter allowing Colorado Mesa to pull away for a 64-45 victory Thursday afternoon in the NSU Holiday Invitational hosted by Nova Southeastern University.
The Bearcats (7-4) took a 20-17 lead on a basket by Kelsey Fields with 7:58 to play in the first half. Northwest went silent for the next 10:25 of game play extending into the third quarter. The Mavericks used that time to go on a 16-0 run and jump in front 33-20.
Northwest shot just 28.8-percent from the field and made four of 25 three-point attempts on the day.
Kelsey Fields scored a team-high 11 points.
Emree Zars and Caely Kesten finished with eight points apiece.
The Bearcats have one more game before heading into the holiday break. They face Nova Southeastern at 1pm Friday. Pregame on KXCV 90.5 and KRNW 88.9 begins at 12:30pm.
