Northwest 47, Arkansas Fort Smith 56

Northwest Missouri State struggled shooting Saturday afternoon in a 56-47 loss to Arkansas Fort Smith.

The Bearcats (13-14, 6-11 MIAA) held the Lions 19 points under its season average, but Northwest only hit 29% for the game and went 6-27 from three-point range.

The stage was set for a low-scoring affair in the opening quarter with neither team getting a bucket for the first four minutes. Fort Smith put up the first points with 5:39 to play in the opening quarter, and Northwest quickly tied it 2-2 on the next possession.

The Bearcats led by two at the end of the third quarter, but the Lions held a 19-8 scoring advantage in the final 10 minutes to get the win.

Sadie Maas scored a career-high 15 points on 7-12 shooting. She also grabbed nine rebounds and blocked three shots.

Caely Kesten added 11 points.
