Northwest Missouri State's slow third quarter opened the door for Missouri Southern to claim a 59-50 victory over the Bearcats in the opening round of the MIAA Tournament.

The Bearcats (15-15) led for much of the first half, but hit a scoring slump late in the second quarter. The Lions pounced with an 18-0 run that flipped a three-point lead to a 15-point deficit.
