Northwest Missouri State opened up a first quarter lead on Minnesota State Moorhead thanks to a 9-0 run and held on through a defensive struggle for a 54-47 victory.

The Bearcats (2-1) limited the Dragons to 2-8 shooting from three-point range, and scored 25 points off 17 MSUM turnovers.

Caely Kesten was the early spark for Northwest, hitting four of her first five three-point attempts. The graduate student from Denver, CO finished with a game-high 20 points and 6-8 from long range.

Kelsey Fields was dominant inside posting her 12th career double-double. The senior finished with 14 points while collecting 15 rebounds and blocking two shots.

Northwest returns to the Civic Arena in St. Joseph Saturday as they close out the Central Region Showcase against No. 1 Minnesota State at 2:45pm.
