Northwest Missouri State controlled much of Saturday's game against Pittsburg State until the closing minutes when the Gorillas pushed ahead and stole a 61-59 road win.

The Bearcats (12-13, 5-10 MIAA) didn't trail in the game until Pitt State's Grace Pyle hit a reverse layup with 7.6 seconds remaining in the contest.

Northwest had a scorching start making 11-17 shots in the first quarter and leading 24-12. The Bearcats continued to fill it up hitting all three three-point attempts in the second to hold a 44-28 advantage at halftime.

The stellar start faded in the second half as Northwest went 0-7 from behind the arc in the second half and mustered a total of 15 points in the final two quarters combined.

Caely Kesten scored a game-high 24 points. Sadie Maas chipped in with nine points and seven rebounds off the bench.

Northwest goes back on the road Thursday at 5:30pm against Northeastern State. Pregame on KXCV 90.5 and KRNW 88.9 begins at 5pm.
