Northwest Missouri State couldn't overcome a 17-point first half deficit in a 71-60 loss to Washburn Wednesday night.

The Bearcats (9-10, 2-7 MIAA) allowed the Ichabods to shoot 84.6% (11-13) from the field in the first quarter, and Washburn's biggest advantage of the night came early in the second at 27-10.

Northwest fought back hitting three-of-five three-point attempts in the second quarter, and going six-of-seven at the free throw line. The Bearcats climbed back within six points of the Ichabods before a late bucket pushed the halftime margin back to eight points.

Neither team gained much traction in the third quarter, with Washburn taking a 10-point advantage to the fourth. A layup from Molly Hartnett and three by Caely Kesten midway through the final frame brought Northwest back within six points, but Washburn quickly pushed the lead back to double digits and didn't allow the Bearcats back into the game.

Kesten paced Northwest with 23 points on 8-16 shooting. Emree Zars finished with 15 points, and Hartnett chipped in with 11.

The Bearcats are back home Saturday at 1:40pm against Central Missouri. Pregame on KXCV 90.5 and KRNW 88.9 begins at 1pm.
