Northwest Missouri State let a late lead slip away as Colorado Springs knocked off the Bearcats 63-61 in the final seconds Friday afternoon in Kansas City.
The Bearcats (1-3) battled back from a 10-point first half deficit to take the lead with 2:07 remaining before halftime. Northwest held onto the slim margin until the 7:02 mark in the second half when UCCS got a bucket to go up by one point. From there, the teams traded five leads and were tied three times.
Down by two, William Becker of UCCS hit a layup to tie the game 61-61 with 38 seconds to go. Northwest failed to score on a three-point attempt with 11 seconds on the clock and Becker grabbed the rebound. UCCS go the ball inside to Xavier Martinez for the go-ahead bucket with one second remaining.
Emorie Knox and Padraig Gallagher scored 12 points apiece. Ja'Vion Byers chipped in with 10 points off the bench.
Northwest will be in action next weekend, November 23, against Southwest Minnesota State at 1pm in Fayette, IA as part of the Peacock Classic hosted by Upper Iowa.
