Northwest Missouri State jumped in front of Arkansas Fort Smith early on Saturday and held on for a 64-56 victory over the Lions.

The win marks back-to-back victories for the first time this season for the Bearcats (6-20, 4-13 MIAA).

After trailing 10-9 nearly seven minutes into the game, Northwest reeled off 10 straight points to jump on top. The advantage grew to 13 points just before halftime on a pair of free throws from Emorie Knox.

The Lions fought back on their home floor late in the game, getting back within two of the Bearcats midway through the second half. Northwest answered with a 17-5 run that grew the lead to 14 points.

Ja'Vion Byers scored a game-high 21 points.

Byron Alexander finished with 12 points and nine rebounds.

Northwest returns home Thursday to face Newman. Tip-off is set for 7:30pm. Pregame on KXCV 90.5 and KRNW 88.9 begins at 7pm.
