Northwest Missouri State made a push late, but came up short in a 69-67 loss to Missouri Southern Thursday night.
Marcus Glock hit a three-pointer with 2:17 to play that lifted the Bearcats (4-19, 2-12 MIAA) to a four-point lead. The Lions tied it with consecutive buckets, but again Northwest went back ahead thanks to free throws from Emorie Knox.
Missouri Southern answered with a layup from Martin Macenis to tie it, then after getting a stop, Jaden Taylor hit a contested shot that moved the Lions ahead 69-67 with three seconds left. Knox took the inbound pass, raced down the sideline and pulled up for the game-winning three, but it was off the mark.
Southern captialized throughout the night with nine offensive rebounds resulting in 17 second-chance points.
Northwest, while shooting 50% (13-26) in the second half, made just 2-12 three-point attempts in the final 20 minutes.
Knox put up a team-high 15 points and nine assists.
Trey Moala finished with 12 points and eight rebounds.
Northwest hosts Pittsburg State at 3:30pm Saturday. Pregame on KXCV 90.5 and KRNW 88.9 begins at 3pm.
